another day, another london festival.

this time, sunday, seb tellier was the opening act. should have knocked goldfrapp of her filthy perch me thinks. seun kuti [youngest son of fela] played with egypt 80. amazing stuff. and the massive fun of the flaming lips finished it all off.

classic. there was tea at half time and plenty of green carpet in the green room.

bike spotter: puch spotted in brighton. its just a bike. or is it?

iwai recounted the development of the device, its gestations began when, as a filmmaker he needed to create soundtracks and lacking the musical skills, sought to compose them using his computer. this lead to the development of software that was more intuitive and playful. iwai showed some amazing artworks he developed including one in which the viewer painted patterns, which triggered piano keys - which triggered beautiful light streams.

he’s a bloody genius actually. and as for the device, the tenori-on, well its lovely to play with, and i’m sure i could spend hours mucking around with it. i suppose the jury is still out on using it as a compositional tool.

performance is another matter though - yamaha showcased the product with special guests, including kieran hebden [aka four tet]. the sound was great, though not necessarily distinctive. i think it works for someone like hebden as it gives him something to do other than stare at his laptop [and check emails hah!] while performing.

i want one, goddammit. but i don’t think i’m going to fork out the £600

museums and galleries in london do have late night events and they do work - but usually if there’s an event on, you can’t see the art properly innit!
